Sleep Training

Thursday, February 25, 2016

We just recently started sleep training Aiden with a modified controlled crying method, and so far it's going as good as can be expected.

He is sleeping through the night completely now and going down without much protest, which is amazing (he had been waking up 5-6 times a night before, and needed to be fed or rocked back to sleep every time, which was exhausting for everyone). However, daytime naps are more of a struggle, with lots of wailing and thrashing about, but he seems to be starting to understand this new way of getting to sleep.

When he actually is able to soothe himself to sleep and nap for a long stretch he wakes up happy for the most part, and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Poor little guy though, some days he wakes up and his face just breaks my heart because you can tell it was a rough one. The only thing I can do then is smother him with kisses, and reassure him that we didn't abandon him...and apologize profusely, and hope that he still loves us. Okay maybe I'm being a little overdramatic with that last bit, but this sleep training struggle has been real.

Only a few more days baby boy, and I think you will fully have the hang of it! We are so proud of you!
